Position Overview
The Driver Leader plays a mission-critical role in optimizing driver performance, protecting company profitability, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. This position serves as the primary liaison between drivers and the operations team—coaching, supporting, and holding drivers accountable to Meiborg’s performance standards. Strong communication and relationship skills are essential to improving driver retention, maximizing miles, and maintaining the high service standards customers expect.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Performance & Efficiency
- Achieve revenue-per-truck targets of $5,700 per week while maintaining an average of 2,650 miles per week per driver.
- Monitor MPG performance, idle hours, and driver productivity to control costs and improve overall fleet efficiency.
- Ensure each driver completes 5–6 loads per week with exceptional on-time service.
- Coordinate driver home time to minimize downtime and maximize available hours.
- Track ETAs, routing, and load assignments to reduce deadhead and support efficient route planning.
Driver Accountability & Coaching
- Hold drivers accountable for company standards, including on-time pickups/deliveries and proper trip planning.
- Coach drivers on Motive usage, communication expectations, and efficient workflow habits.
- Reinforce and monitor compliance with daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Ensure PODs are submitted immediately upon load completion and follow up on all accessorials for payment capture.
- Encourage drivers to solve problems proactively, especially regarding equipment concerns and breakdowns.
Communication & Collaboration
- Maintain constant, clear communication with drivers via phone, text, and email.
- Partner closely with Planning, Customer Service, Payroll, Safety, and Recruiting to support seamless load execution.
- Coordinate with night and weekend dispatch to keep drivers rolling with minimal downtime.
- Maintain accurate driver maps—tracking hours of service, ETAs, home time schedules, and maintenance needs.
- Provide drivers with detailed instructions for all assignments to avoid delays or confusion.
Daily Operational Duties
- Dispatch drivers to execute pickup and delivery schedules.
- Review and interpret driver logs for compliance and accuracy.
- Plan delivery routes to maximize loaded miles and eliminate waste.
- Maintain organized, accurate records of driver activities and communications.
- Build strong relationships with drivers to reduce stress from last-minute changes and keep morale high.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
